In Memory

Kerry Anderson

Kerry Anderson is the son of Myrwin and Jan Anderson.  Kerry was diagnosed with cancer in May of 2008 and passed away just a few weeks later on June 24, 2008.  His friends in Chicago remembered him for his wit, humor, kindness, and so much more. He had a collection of kites and his friend's niece was going to fly a kite at the ocean to honor him. He enjoyed organizing and being a member of teams such as bowling and volleyball. The Anderson's spent most Christmas in Sanibel Island in Florida. His ashes were to be taken there.

I have known Kerry longer than I remember knowing anyone else. I have a clear picture in my head playing in his yard when the Anderson's lived downtown. I asked him to marry me. But he told me that he had already promised to marry Robin Ward who was a neighbor girl.

Kerry and I went to church together, swam on the MCC swim team together, played clarinet in the band together, and more. After high school I visited him in Chicago and spent a Christmas with him and his family in Florida. Although our paths did not often cross, I kept track of him through his parents or his sister Sherry who is a very good friend of mine.

I guess I always loved him. I'm thankful that I feel pretty sure he knew it.

I always thought that a man's greatest compliment is to be compared to his father. That's how I remember Kerry, that he was much like Myrwin. He was studious and hard-working, yet never overbearing. Seems like we were always in the same class. I could look around and somewhere in the room would be Kerry, so he seemed like a fixture in my life. All who were touched by him are better for it.
